Beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, turnips, kohlrabi, and zucchini. The broccoli has performed poorly with the warm, dry temperatures. Not sure if dad's starting it early from seed indoors had any effect. Anyhow, it is going bye-bye. Any suggestions on what might produce crops with anywhere from 42 to 70 days of growing season left? More pole beans might be a bit of a gamble, but the yellow ones do seem to produce good yields even earlier than the purple ones. High winds knocked over three of the tripods in my garden at home and uprooted a bunch of beans.
The plants in one of the rows of potatoes dad planted had pretty much died. Not sure why, some possibilities include insufficient sun, heavy soil lacking sufficient acid, &/or bugs. These were decent sized. Not knowing how many seed potatoes were planted, I don't know if the yield is good or bad. I plan to toss the little ones (not shown) back in the ground with some more compost and take a gamble that they might grow a few more spuds before frost.
Attempting a day of rest today, only the essentials were picked. We finally received a bit of rain after approx. 1 1/2 weeks of dry, hot weather. Not having to water today was truly sweet.
