Road?
We might actually get one back this week!
They have only been "working" on it since May?!!*&$#.
When I say "working", that means they appear on seemingly random occasions, putz around a bit,
and then leave again for long stretches.
Except for last week when a grader took a few passes up and down the street, they have never "worked" here on Friday.
It is true that we have had a lot of rain this summer,
but they are the slowest road crew I have ever seen.
It will be so wonderful when they are done and gone.
Then all the folks who work 2nd and/or 3rd shift on the street can finally get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

More Beautiful "Summer"
Enjoy the view before it fades away,
and gets tucked away in people's garages for the winter.
In case you had forgotten,
summer = pretty cars.
For your enjoyment today,
we have small, medium, and large.

Things That Go Boom
When a dual tire breaks off a semi tractor trailer rig, it goes boom really loudly especially when it rolls into oncoming traffic and head on collides with a little old lady's car. It happened in front of my house this afternoon as the afternoon rush of business and school traffic was in full swing. Thanks to her airbags, she was able to walk away with the assistance of EMT's, but her car is totaled.

Sunday
The day dawned beautiful and sunny.
and promising lots of activities.
First, to church where it was my turn to be a helper in the 4 year old's Sunday school class.
What is the difference between herding cats and a room full of 13 four year old boys? (NO Girls at all! What's with that?!)
Answer: Cats can entertain themselves by chasing their tails. Little boys need toys and things to do.
The teacher and all the helpers agreed that the classroom needs a much bigger Lego table, because when given the choice of big blocks, books, or Legos - they all chose Legos. Curiously, four year olds usually tear apart the lego people, leaving the small pieces to fall to the very bottom of the bin of lego blocks. But it would appear that this group of boys hit critical play mass and actually tried to reassemble all the dismembered Lego people pieces that had sunk to the the bottom of the bin. It was so cute when one would say, "mine needs pants". And another would say, "mine needs arms and hands". And a third would ask, "Has anyone seen the helmet, and where is the little megaphone?" One said that he made a flying gun ship. I asked him if he knew the four rules for his gun ship. He said yes, but I doubt he really knew them. We'll have to work on that.
After church I drove by mom's house on the off chance that they might have gone straight home so I could administer her shot - no dice. On the drive home I saw the elusive dark cherry red MacLaren MP4-12C parked outside our favorite Chinese restaurant. Alas, again I did not have the camera with me! Once home we had a quick lunch of leftover steak, corn, and mashed potatoes. Then hubby headed off to work, and I called mom to make sure she was actually home. After mother maintenance was completed, a stop at the library was in order. Back home I checked on the availability of a ceiling fan light switch to replace the one that croaked in our bedroom yesterday. I decided since we have three of the same ceiling fan model and the price for the switch was half as much at Home Depot than at the nearby hardware store, a drive to the Depot of Home stuff was in order. The clerk at the store asked me if I found everything my heart desired, and I replied with a very boring answer "I found what I needed, no more, no less." Once home, my body decided it was time for a nap. So in the end, Sunday was a day of rest after all. After a 3 1/2 hour nap, a bit of ambition returned and the light was fixed.
A grand adventure might have been nice today, but sometimes a really long nap is what is needed most. Hope your Sunday was beautiful and restful!

The Queen is Not Amused
If queen Tigger could talk she would probably say.
"Humans are evil!
First they drag me out from under a futon.
Then they shove me in a cat carrier.
The carrier goes into one of those horrible automobiles.
The lady driver mocks my protests by mimicking them while listening to country music turned up quite loudly.
They show disgust when I go #1 in the carrier, and shove a towel in to mop up the mess as much as possible.
Then they drag me out of the carrier at the veterinary clinic and jab me in the bottom with a needle.
After that indignity, I was shoved back into the carrier and subjected to a return trip in that accursed automobile.
Finally when I though I was safe at home, the female human put me in the dog kennel and gave me a shower.
She laughed when I yowled louder as the water in the garden hose went from solar heated to cold.
I must admit that I am cleaner than I was, but I strongly protest her methods. What is distemper anyway, and why do I have to get a shot for it? And to top it all off, the vet said I was only 4 oz heavier than last time. Drat, I am trying to be the fattest cat ever, but those people only feed me twice a day. Guess I will have to be even lazier, so that the calories do not get burned."

"Cute" Corn
Isn't it ridiculously tiny?!
Normally dad's garden produces much bigger corn than this,
but with the cool, rainy summer -we'll take what we can get.

Mystery Marrows
Well, for once the Brits may have gotten the naming of things just so by leaving them in a very general category rather than itemizing things into pumpkins, squash, or gourds. I seem to have something that falls somewhere between the three.
They look a bit like fat zucchini, but they aren't. I planted some seeds from a miniature pumpkin harvested last year and added some commercially grown mini-pumpkin seeds in the same row. The mini-pumpkin from last year may have cross pollinated with the musquee de provence pumpkins. But since I didn't keep track of which seeds were saved and which were the store-bought ones, I am not sure which ones went mutant. They don't really have pronounce ribbing like normal pumpkins. They start out green with orange streaks, then go all green, and then they turn back to orange all over like a pumpkin would. To be honest, they look like someone took a mini-pumpkin, removed the ribbing, and stretched it on a medieval torture device. One is almost done turning orange. Guess we will find out if it is any good fairly soon, once it turns orange all over. Hopefully, it will not be a bitter semi-poisonous throwback to an older, wild variation of the marrow.
A normal mini-pumpkin is shown in the lower left.
The size difference is considerable.
