Found a Vegetable that Chloe Likes

"What 'Mom' doesn't know is that we dogs
consider sweet corn to be a carb. not a vegetable."

Dad invited me over for dinner of roasted sweet corn and whatever else might be on hand.  He had no other takers on his invitation, so we spent about  half an hour shucking the extra corn.  Then he cut a bunch off the cobs to put into the freezer.  At first, Chloe showed no real interest in the corn, but as Dad started slicing it off the cob, the aroma caught her attention.  So, we tossed a cob with a little corn left on the ends out in the yard, and told her to fetch it.  She ran out after it and started picking it up in her mouth like she does with her bumper - the stogie hold.  Then she tasted it and set it back down.  She must have decided it tasted good because she started picking at the ends where there were still kernels and eating them.  Any other dog would have been knawing on the cob with gusto; she is such a picky eater.  Dad tossed out another cob, this time a little under ripe, but she sniffed that one, left it, and went back to the cob with the ripe kernels.  She has quite the nose to be able to pick out ripe from green.  After a little while, she tired of the cobs and came back to where dad was working on the corn.  She started begging and managed to mooch two strips of corn from dad before finally giving up.  Don't think she'll have any trouble with constipation tomorrow.

  1. When Barkley was a puppy we lived in a place with a really tiny yard. I walked him regularly but he put on a few pounds when he was about 2. The doctor suggested replacing his "treats" with frozen veggies. He LOVED brussle sprouts and frozen peas. He'll still come begging eating frozen peas from my fingers delicately as long as I will keep giving them to him.
