There is an even taller one in the front of the garden, and it is still standing. Thankfully it stopped growing before it reached the height of the phone line. No airmen are flying overhead, but the garden is abuzz with gold finches.
I put some of the cut sunflowers in a bucket of water by the sidewalk. It looks like a few folks might have taken some home for themselves.
Any taller, you'd need to issue a Notice to Airmen for planes flying overhead :-)
